Particle Dance is a unique collaboration between artists, dancers, musicians, technologists and scientists.
The performance takes place inside and around Particle Shrine; a generative installation that captures cosmic rays in 5 detectors and converts the energy into sound, light and vibrations.
Cosmic rays are mysterious subatomic particles from deep in the cosmos. Scientists are constantly studying them to uncover the mysteries of the universe. Real-time readings of these curious particles control the lights during the performance, which influences the choreography and composition.
The result is an extraordinary, 30 minute, semi-improvised contemporary dance and music performance where sound, movement and real-time particle physics data explores these fascinating concepts. This piece was created in collaboration with a multi-generational cast of 17 dancers and 12 musicians over a series of community workshops.
The premiere took place at Magna Science Adventure Centre.
